Hello.

I was born in June of 1978 in the lovely town whose name I bear. I lived there until I was seven years old, when I started school in Sofia. I lived in Sofia until sixth grade, at which point I went to Germany with my father.  I spent the first six months in Germany in the town of Halle (Handel’s birthplace, by the way) along with my parental unit, then spent the next three years at a boarding school 60 km away from there.  These three years were perhaps the most important period of my life, first of all, because in large part I became then the person I am today; second, because I found my best friends, with whom I remain close to this very day; and, third, because I met the love of my life, to whom I have been happily married for the past three years. :-)  Fourth, I was able to learn German, which was a great stroke of luck, since with my innate laziness I highly doubt I would have been able to master any foreign language so well in Bulgaria.

After returning to Bulgaria, I studied at the German-language high school “Konstantine Gulubov” in Sofia, and after that I studied Slavic and Germanic languages and literatures at Sofia University. Upon graduating, I became a graduate student in Western European literature at the same institution.

I began to actively and publicly take part in music and literature at the beginning of this decade (or millennium, as it were), when I began regularly writing music reviews about live performances and recordings, as well as reviews of literary events,  for the newspaper Culture. During 2005-2006, I wrote a regular column about music entitled “Musaic” for the Literary Newspaper. In March of 2005, my debut book, Cartographies of Escape, (containing 16 short stories and one poem) was published, garnering more interest than even I myself had expected. I was nominated for the “Elias Canneti” prize 2005; thanks to this book I also took part in a literary-musical performance (along with fellow author Todora Radeva) at the prestigious Apollonia Arts Festival in
Sozopol, Bulgaria, in 2005.

I joined Gologan at the end of 2004 at the premiere of the book Bdin by Ivan Hristov.

That’s enough for now.
